The Focus Areas for an innovation help quickly demonstrate what the innovation is about or the impact it seeks to achieve. This is helpful for prospective partners in quickly seeing if the innovation is a good fit for their strategic priorities. Also, you will receive recommendations and email alerts for funding based on the Focus Areas you have selected. To ensure that you get the right fit opportunities for your innovation, it is important that you select accurate Focus Areas.

Select your Focus Areas under "Introduction: Basic Snapshot of Your Innovation". There are two separate fields on the form:
  • Top 3 Focus Areas - In this section you can select up to 3 Focus Areas that best describe your innovation. For these, aim for specificity so someone who is skimming your innovation can quickly see these first. That is, you want to select sub-sectors (e.g. Maternal and Newborn Child Health or Secondary Education) instead of the main sectors (e.g. Health or Education). The broad sectors don’t provide sufficient context about your innovation. You can also select from Topics (e.g. Digital Development). See the full list below for Sectors, Sub-Sectors, and Topics.
  • Additional Focus Areas - In this section you can add in other Focus Areas that also apply to your innovation but didn't make the cut in the top 3. While you can add as many as you'd like, adding too many will make it appear like your innovation doesn't have sufficient focus, making it impossible for prospective partners to see if you align with their priorities. Additionally, you will receive irrelevant email alerts.
